Filtering The Best Search Engines

Being able to search for information is the major attraction of the internet

. You can find almost any topic there is to know - if it has been transferred or uploaded onto the net. Sometimes we need to look up a topic but don't know how to go about it. Sometimes we open up a standard search engine that yields a few results. Wouldn't it be fun if we cold have more options to search? Are there other ways of searching the web? Are there any good search engines out there?

The good news is there are a lot of them. The thing is each of these search engines have their own specialty. You should know which one to use when searching. If this is the case, what is the list of best search engines?

There are around six of them and here is the list of the best search engines: Ask; Baidu; Bing; Cuil; Duck Duck Go; Google; Sogou; Sohu; Yahoo!; and Yandex. Some of these might not sound familiar and the reason for this is that they are localized or focus on a specific area only. Baidu, for example, is the number one Chinese search engine. Anything about China and Chinese people or culture are found here with more than usual detail than Ask.

Looking at each search engine can only list the best features for each one. Ask is a search engine that is based on the concept of a butler who can fetch anything for you. All you have to do is "ask" for it. While its original name was Ask Jeeves it has been known now as Ask. The strong point of this search engine is that it uses a list of natural questions or natural language when searching online. This means that searching is more intuitive and more culturally/socially based.

Baidu is a Chinese search engine that scours the internet for a list of best websites, audio files and images. The difference in Baidu is that it is more media oriented and draws heavily on audio and video sources. Baidu also serves as a jumping point of most Chinese nationals to get information based on Chinese language and phonetics. Its basically a place where Chinese people go for their daily internet fix.

Bing is a search engine that has been heavily promoted by Microsoft. This search engine is a "decision engine" that enables users to get real time varied results from current data on the internet. It also seems to predict the next step in a users search pattern.

Cuil is a search engine that displays its results as a result of thumbnails. This search engine hasn't gained much popularity for it has been experiencing slow lag times.

Sogou and Sohu are Chinese Search engines similar to Baidu but more text oriented. Its another place where Chinese nationals can use as an entry point into the net.

Duck Duck Go is a unique search engine that can find silly and imaginative words that are used. It has a simple interface and is generally limited unlike the others.

Google and Yahoo! Search are two of the biggest search engines that can rapidly locate information on the internet. Sometimes the results pages get bogged down by a lot of advertising but as a whole it can quickly index and search for information from different sources.

With all these different search engines, its really up to the user to pick the best one. Sometimes the choice can be tilted by the simplest things like the color scheme of the interface or the results of the search. Either way, the list goes on in search of the best search engine. If it works for you then it works.
