If you're trying to plan homestay accommodations for a trip in Melaka, it's sometimes hard to know where to start looking. Google "homestay Melaka" is how I normally do. I'm sure you just did it and found this site.
I haven't yet had a chance to follow through the below recommended homestay with an actual stay, so I'm not promising anything, just giving you with some ideas. In the past I've booked homestays through word of mouth and Google search. As you are aware, these days the internet is getting better at connecting people and a lot of these sites seem to have good potential for setting you up with a great homestay arrangement.
With a bit of surfing around online you can find homestay options around Melaka town area, Ayeh Keroh, riverside place or even quite a distance from town. If you're worried about using a homestay that you know little about other than what you read on the internet, then my advice is to head to a forum and post a question in the relevant section you're bound to find someone lurking there who either has experience with that homestay or is a local in Melaka and can help you decide if it seems suitable. Another alternative you can try is to call and talk directly to the owner about the homestay. This is very straight forward to solve your worries.
Just bear in mind that there's always risk involved in all aspects of travel. If you don't take any risks you'll end up staying home! Homestay is always my first choice when comes to travel as I feel more airy, stress-free, convenient and certainly CHEAP. So happy homestaying!
