Moving to a new home can be quite a bittersweet experience. On the one hand you are likely to be quite nostalgic about having to leave your old home along with the many memories of all the good times you spent here. However, on the other hand, there is the excitement of looking forward to your new home. If there is one thing that is likely to dampen the enthusiasm about moving, it is the thought of packing, transporting and unpacking all your belongings. Packing up is never easy but it is something that has to be done and the sooner you start, the less stressful it will be.

A good tip to keep in mind is to remember that you should not keep everything for the last moment. There are plenty of household items and personal belongings that you can pack up well in advance. If you are packing in winter, you can start packing all of your summer and spring clothes and open sandals. Another thing you can pack up in advance are your photo frames, floor lamps, lampshades, curios and other miscellaneous household items that you could do without in the interim period.

Among the first things you are going to need are boxes for moving along with other essential packing supplies. You may be tempted to go to the grocer's store and get a few of their surplus boxes for packing. However, that is no always a good idea. Boxes for moving are especially manufactured to be sturdy enough to withstand the rigors of moving whereas grocer's boxes are usually meant for one-time use only. Chances are these boxes would collapse or break and damage whatever is packed within.

You can use them for almost everything from books to kitchen items, clothes, shoes, toys and just about anything else you can think of. When packing books, remember not to fill any one box with just books as the box will get very heavy and it will become difficult to carry. Instead, put a few books at the bottom of the box and then pack some other lighter items on top of the books.

Wardrobe boxes are perfect for packing up formal clothes such as jackets and gowns, which you need to transport without getting them creased. These are especially built, sturdy boxes for packing and can also be used for storing your summer or winter clothes.
