Firms 'starting to realise benefits of mobile phone recycling'

Businesses in the UK are beginning to realise the potential benefits of mobile phone recycling

, it has been claimed.

According to an article on Recycle, enterprises have discovered there are financial benefits from engaging in such eco-friendly practices.

The news source noted it has been estimated that more than three million firms across the country will give out company or company-paid mobiles as part of upgrades or new handouts over the course of this year.

It added: "With the large excess of redundant phones in the corporate sector, businesses are beginning to appreciate the value of recycling phones that employees exchange for new ones."

The article went on to state that enterprises looking to recycle mobile phones are doing so in a number of ways.

Some are forming partnerships with online providers of mobile phone recycling services.

Meanwhile, others are setting up recycling drives in building lobbies.

It remarked: "Not only do corporations receive environmental accolades for responsibly recycling, but they are also saving money by redeeming rewards or cash-based incentives from the recycling schemes."

Indeed, firms may well enhance their image among consumers if they recycle mobile phones, as research suggests people are more receptive to businesses that can show they are doing their bit to be green.

Also, as Recycle points out, many partners and sponsors are eager to work with firms that are raising their environmental credentials.

And of course it is not only mobile phones than organisations are keen to recycle, but also items such as computers, cameras and printers.

When not dealt with properly, such products can cause harmful gases to accumulate if sent to landfill.

The news source added: "Websites that promote recycling of such items have become increasingly popular and many offer incentives for recycling." Some of these have set up Facebook pages to make advertising easier, it pointed out.
