First Aid Kits Are Available In All Shapes and Sizes

There are pieces of legislation regarding first aid kits and even companies or councils that would consider themselves to be low risk organisations need to have first aid kits on the premises and have people who can administer the use of its contents. There doesn't have to be a lot of items in a first aid kit but a basic provision can make for a better workplace and ensure that certain matters do not get out of hand. Things like plasters, safety pins, bandages, dressings, wipes and even eye-pads are all fairly common items and each firm should have access to them in case of incidents or accidents occurring in the workplace.

Depending on the size of the company or the type of work that is being carried out, there may be a need for a more specialist first aid kit to provide the assistance that will be required. A busy kitchen is likely to suffer more staff being burned than say an office or a library and this means that a kitchen should have a first aid kit that is more suited to its needs. This could involve stocking it with dressings and cream to calm any affected areas. Other workplaces that may require specialist first aid kits include the construction industry, machine-based industries and workforces that have a percentage of their workforce working outside of the office.

If a firm has a number of employees who travel around in their car a lot, there can be a requirement for the employees to be issued with a first aid kit for their car. This can be very small to ensure it can be placed within the glove compartment but it should contain a basic number of supplies which can make life easier for people on the road. Plasters, bandages, wipes and pads are all useful items to have access to and a firm needs to ensure that all of their staff members are being given a duty of care.

Many firms are now using first aid kits which are attached to the wall, allowing staff to come along and help themselves to various items. This is good because it ensures that all staff members have access to the items contained in the first aid kit but there is also a need to ensure it is properly stocked up. There should be someone within the firm appointed to ensure the first aid kits are always properly stocked and to replace any items that have been used up. A first aid kit that doesn't contain first aid material is of no use at all.
