Fishing For Walleye

Walleye fishing is very popular no matter the time of year

. Many people can agree that the taste of the walleye that are found on this river is better than those of any other body of fresh water. Typically the walleye can be found the easiest when they are ready to spawn. This is also true for other species of fish, as you may know.

This season is from March to May and millions of walleyes make the trek to the rivers and other great spawning areas for this season. When you pick these locations at the right time, your walleye fishing will be much more successful.

Those who want to angle for these great tasting walleye may want to know some tips and tricks that can help them to land the big walleyes.

You shouldn't go into any fishing expedition unprepared and with the right tips, you can get fully prepared for catching walleye easier than ever before. You can make every fishing trip completely worth its while with a few simple guidelines.

Here are five tips to fishing for walleye:

1. Bundle Up - When fishing during March to May, the water as well as the air can be quite cold in many areas where walleye are fished for, particularly in the early morning hours when walleye fishing is at its best. It is important to wear layers of clothing that are warm and that can be covered up with water proof gear. As the day gets warmer, the layers can be removed to keep the fisherman from overheating. It is important to make sure that the body stays warm and that hypothermia is not going to be an issue.

Make sure you bring a couple of changes of clothing that are held in waterproof plastic bags. If you need to do a quick change, you are going to have warm and dry clothing to wear. This can keep the body's core temperature at a normal level and is going to make for a more comfortable fishing trip.

2. Trolling - Not everyone is going to be fishing walleye during the spawning season. After May, the best way to catch the walleye is going to be by trolling. The walleye are going to be more spread out than they are when they are spawning. Trolling allows for more of the river bottom to be covered in one pass. More walleye are going to see your lures and baits and this means you are going to be able to get more fish. The larger fish are going to be at the bottom so make sure your lure or jig has enough weight to get to the bottom of the river.
