Shark Fishing Techniques

Shark fishing can be slow and boring at times and the most exciting thing you've ever done at other times

. When you start getting a bite that's when the excitement begins. You have to expect to have both good and bad days when fishing for any species but this is especially true when fishing for sharks.

They're either in the mood to strike the line or they're not and it's hard to get them to take the bait when they're simply not in the mood. Still, when they are biting, it will be well worth the wait and the excitement that you feel at that moment will make you forget about all the times you didn't get a bite. When you're ready to try your hand at shark fishing you'll need to know which techniques work the best.

Below are three shark fishing techniques that have proven to be very productive.

1. Surf fishing - Surf fishing for sharks is an excellent technique that many anglers find to be very effective. However, you will need to be experienced with handling sharks in order to use this technique so you'll be able to handle them once you get it reeled in. Surf fishing for sharks is the most exciting technique around but it's also one of the most demanding.

2. Drift fishing - Drift fishing is another great technique to use when seeking out sharks. It's important to chart your drift based on the tide and the wind so you can keep up with what works the best in any given situation.

3. Still Fishing - When still fishing you need to anchor your boat in an area where you expect the shark to be located or somewhere in the general area.

Hang a block of frozen chum off the side of the boat and as it thaws out the shark will be drawn to the area. Now it's up to you to entice them to strike and reel them in.

All of these techniques will work great when seeking out this species but shark fishing requires that you have a crew regardless of which technique you decide to use.

Basic tips for Shark Fishing

As soon as the water begins warming up after winter the sharks will be more aggressive and searching for food. When you go fishing for sharks in the summer, it's recommended that you look for areas where the water is the coolest because this is where you'll get the most action.
