Fitness Training - 2 Exercise Routines To Add Variety to Your Training Program

When exercising for any length of time it is normal to encounter a period where you will be less motivated to do your routines. This is what many people call reaching the plateau'. This happens when an exercise no longer becomes a challenge. This happens when your body adapts to the intensity over time. When you reach that point it is time to raise the bar and make it more challenging.

Another way that people lose motivation is through doing the same exercise over and over again. This eventually becomes boring and motivation begins to slide. If you are feeling bored with your exercise routine then you need to add more variety to it.

For example, if running is a major part of your exercise routine then you can introduce a few variations to make it more challenging as follows:

Interval training

This is a very effective way of increasing your lung capacity and improving your cardiovascular strength. Interval training involves short bursts of intensive exercise mixed in with periods of recovery. This can involve running at a fast pace for one minute and then slowing down to a jog for the next minute to enable the body to recover from the intensity.

Fartlek Training

Fartlek is a fun way to keep fit and stay motivated. Fartlek is Swedish for speed play. This type of unstructured training involves running at different speeds and using landmarks or prominent points such as telegraph poles, trees or anything that stands out. As running is done over different terrains and surfaces the intensity of the running will change to adapt to the terrain. Doing this type of exercise keeps you alert and fit because you are engaging both the mind and body. You can even make this more fun by having a partner running with you. You can get into pairs and have a competition race. Each runner in the team takes turn to set the pace. You can only go as fast as the slowest back runner therefore, it ensures everyone stays motivated to keep the tempo up.

If you feel bored with your current exercise regime then add a little intensity and variety to it and boredom will no longer become a problem.

With any exercise ensure you do an adequate warm up session and stretch routine first. If you have a medical condition or recovering from an injury it is advisable to speak to either a doctor or physician for advice before undertaking a new form of physical exercise.
