Five Great Multimedia Shredders
In this day and age, information is no longer stored on just paper
. Thanks to the popularity of computers, CD-ROM's, and DVD players, files are now stored on a whole variety of electronic media. When it comes time to toss said media, a problem arises: how do you get rid of it without more or less granting identity thieves access to your private information? The answer is by using a multimedia shredder. Here are five great ones you should consider.
1.) HSM Shredstar Multishred. The Shredstar is a great little shredder. And by "little," we mean "little" because this thing is small enough to be stored on top of a desk. But don't let the size fool you because the Shredstar is powerful enough to destroy paper, CD's, and floppy disks. (Note: it can shred up to 16 sheets of paper at once.) This machine is a cross-cut device that was given a Level 3 security rating so it's ideal for destroying items containing very confidential information. It also has an automatic on/off feature and will alert you when the waste bin is full.
2.) Formax FD 8702CC. This machine is another cross-cut shredder with a Level 3 security rating, but unlike the Shredstart, the 8702CC is large and meant for departmental use. The 8702CC can shred up to an astonishing 40 sheets at once and it's also capable of pulverizing ZIP and floppy disks, CD's, and mini DV tapes. (There are separate feed openings for the paper and multimedia items.) In the case of a jam, the 8702CC will put itself in reverse mode to clear up the mess. There's even an optional automatic oiling system you can purchase if you'd rather not lubricate the machine yourself.
3.) Intimus 502CD. Intimus makes some excellent shredders and the 502CD is one such device. This machine can take a CD/DVD, credit card, or floppy disk and reduce it to handful of shreds measuring 5/16" x 13/16". This ensures your files will never be read again. Plus, this machine works extremely fast and is capable of destroying between 800 and 1,200 items per hour. Unfortunately, the 502CD cannot shred paper, but if you need a powerful multimedia shredder, this product would be a great choice.
4.) Dahle 30414. The 30414 is a cross-cut shredder that can shred CD's, DVD's, and floppy disks. It can also destroy up to 8,000 sheets of paper per day, which is a really phenomenal amount. This machine offers Level 3 security and it has an incredibly powerful, continuous-duty, 1.25-horsepower motor that can run all day if necessary. There's also an enormous 35-gallon waste bin so you can concentrate on things that are more important than getting rid of your shreds. Plus, the bin cabinet is wooden and muffles the sound the machine makes so the people in your office won't be distracted.
5.) Fellowes PowerShred C-420C. This is simply one of Fellowes' best continuous-duty shredders. It will munch up paper, credit cards, and CD's and DVD's, as well as staples and paper clips. It can shred up to 26 sheets per pass and offers Level 3 security. The C-420C also has a very wide 12-inch feed opening that can accommodate wide-format documents, such as 80-column paper. Finally, it comes equipped with an automatic oiler which is always a great thing to have on a continuous-duty device.
Having a multimedia shredder is simply a must in our current electronic age. Get one for your office now so all of your information will be safe, so matter what format it's in.
