Five Must Know Mobile Content Tips

How tough can writing content for mobile be? Its just about rehashing web content

, isnt it? Well yes and no. Writing smart, short copy is easily the toughest job in marketing. Content writers havent yet perfected the art of writing great web copy, and now they have to contend with an even more dynamic platform. So obviously they are (we are) trying to skim and churn he old copy into something that is more easily digestible, and hopefully delectable. Our copy needs to be ever-more concise, more focused, and crystal clear. It must be able to monetize itself, and defeat the fat-finger syndrome.

So how do we write the most arresting copy, for the medium with the shortest attention span? Well, here are some key points that, as obvious as they are, you must keep in mind to serve the audience with exactly what they are looking for- smart, snappy mobile copy!

Brevity Skimming content is the key to success in mobile content. It should not only be concise, but pertinent as well. Keep the sentences short up t0 20 words, and use impressive vocabulary that can convey the message efficiently. If you are creating a mobile version of your website, give it a sharp look and decide what the most important thing is.

Relevant headlines Use strong and relevant headlines to grab the user attention. Make sure that the heading clearly describes the takeaway, or whats inside for the reader.

Call-to-action Maneuver readers and encourage them to take an action via call-to-action (CTA) messages. For example, if you are writing for a mobile shopping site, you should create enticing CTA messages to encourage them for taking an action.

Goal-orientation Cut the content short, but do not let it lose the motive. Create content that is oriented toward your business goals. You need to have a tight focus on what you want to convey your audience, ensuring that the message aligns with your business objective.

Test it Always test your content before serving it to the audience. Start with human testing to check content usability, and follow it with device testing to ensure that content appears perfectly on the small screen. You can consider A/B testing as well; create at least two variations of your content and test against each other. This will help you choose the best version, resulting in maximum conversions.

In a nutshell, creating content for mobile platforms requires remodeling the content approach. Its not difficult, but just different. Keep the meat, trim the fat, season well, and serve hot (and short)- thats the only way to keep those wandering eyes hooked. Remember, mobile users want gourmet, not diner. So, focus on the small screen and write content that will derive value for your business and set your brand apart.
