Five Reasons Why Having Artificial Orchids Is Not Cheating

Even if they are not live,artificial orchids, or as I call them "orchids silk," are beautiful, and quite desirable for at least five important reasons:

First, artificial orchids enable you to "grow" your favorite variety regardless of how easy or difficult to grow their live cousins may be. I've got to admit it, some live orchids are finicky and don't live very long without significant care. They are the varieties that are difficult to sustain and may take more skill to grow than many gardening enthusiasts have.

Orchids are one of the largest families of flowering plants. Some say the largest, some say the second largest. However, when your family contains more than 175,000 members first or second doesn't matter in the larger scheme of things. And that larger scheme includes being able to enjoy an orchid regardless of whether they're live orchids or "orchids silk."

Second, manufacturers have gotten so good at making orchids out of silk that they look so real they may fool people, even those died in the wool "orchid aficionados."

Example: A friend of mine who has a couple of orchids in his garden was watering my plants one day. When he came to two of my "orchids silk" he stopped short, put down the watering can next to them, looked more closely at the orchid, even felt the petal. He then looked at me, began to chuckle and said, "Yeah, you almost fooled me." That's when I knew "growing" artificial orchids was a wonderful way to have even the most finicky orchid in my home and not worry about killing it.

Third, you can express your own creativity with "orchids silk." Even though not all varieties are available as artificial orchids, there are loads that are. And that number is increasing every day just as the demand isincreasing for these beauties. You're sure to find several varieties that are just what you want.

Choose from among any number of colors. Blend those colors and the orchid species. Combine large individual orchids with smaller ones to make your own unique and gorgeous arrangements that last a lifetime.

Fourth, artificial orchids are readily available and continually blooming, even when their live brethren are out of season. And many of the exotic and rare varieties are much less expensive in silk than live.

Fifth, you don't have to worry about where you place an artificial orchid. You certainly don't have to crowd them on or near a sunny windowsill. They can even brighten up the darkest corner of your home.

Remember you can also blend in some live varieties with "orchids silk", if you want to as well. So don't beat yourself up about choosing an artificial orchid. It's not cheating; it's doing what meets your needs and beautifies your life. So just enjoy your "orchids silk." Visitors to your home certainly will.
