Five Tips for your Retreat

Sometimes, we get too overwhelmed when traveling, especially if we are going to certain place that is far away from our domiciles. It's like breaking out of our shells and discovering the beauty of the world for the first time. There are also circumstances when we become too afraid to explore the environment because we do not want trouble in a foreign land. And there are circumstances when we do not think too much before doing something, that we almost forget that we are in a different place.

In order to ensure that wonderful, but hassle-free, getaway, here are five practical tips:

DON'T EXCHANGE MONEY AT EXCHANGE BANKS - Banks and cash exchanges charge commissions, so just make sure that your bank card will work in the country you're visiting. You will almost always get the best exchange rate with your bank card.

ENJOY THE OUTDOORS, NOT THE HOTEL ROOM - Remember the main reason you decided to travel: a change of scenery. While staying in that luxurious room all day is tempting, remember that hotels can be found in all major cities. Tropical rainforests, white sand beaches, and lush safaris cannot. So make the most of your stay, spend more time outdoors than cooped up in your room.

DON'T RUN TO FAST FOOD CHAINS - You can always grab a bite at McDonald's, KFC, or Starbucks in your town, so you might as well refrain from going to the nearest fast food chain. Try the native delicacies in various restaurants. Explore the taste and recipes because you don't always get to dine in bistros that serve these kinds of food. So maximize the opportunity because native dishes are definitely worth biting for.

DON'T GET WAY TOO DRUNK - Sure, it's OK to have a few drinks to set your mood and party, so you can get to mingle with the people around. Exploring the bars will surely surprise you especially with some of the beer and cocktail prices that are way too expensive in your country. However, don't get too drunk. Do not forget that you are in a different place and you can't immediately trust your life to strangers.

DON'T HOLLER FOR CABS - One thing: Riding cabs might cost you too much. Though this may be the most convenient ride, it is better to try trains, subways, and other local public transportation. Familiarize yourself with the country's mode of transport because it's actually more rewarding to commute while you soak up the view of the town.

Being wise is definitely a key to any life's decision so pack it along in your luggage before you leave your home. Enjoy what vacation has to offer but draw some limitations for yourself. The best trip is best served when we think before we act. So before you take any step and regret everything in the end, think with your head and enjoy your trip straight from the heart.
