Any type of raw poultry must never come in contact with other food. Raw poultry, or any raw meat, and their drippings are full of bacteria that is the cause of food poisoning.
The bacteria from raw poultry and meat can and will remain on any surface that it touches including work areas, cutting boards, dishes, utensils, and even your hands. The following are some tips that should be followed to keep anyone from getting sick:
* After touching raw meat or raw poultry, you must always thoroughly wash your hands with warm, soapy waterand then dry them well.
* Don't wash your turkey (or any other poultry) this is because bacteria can splash onto worktops, dishes and other foods. Proper cooking of the poultry will kill any bacteria, so there is no need to wash poultry.
* Always clean worktops, chopping boards, dishes and utensils thoroughly after they have touched raw poultry.
* Never use the same chopping board for raw poultry and ready-to-eat food without washing it thoroughly in warm soapy water. (If possible, use a separate chopping board just for raw meat and poultry).
Things to remember for storing raw meat and poultry:
* Never allow raw poultry or raw meat to come in contact with any other food.
* Store raw poultry at the bottom of the fridge so it can't drip onto other foods. All of this applies to any type of poultry and meat.
These tips includes poultry such as turkey, chicken, duck, good, hen, partridge, and pheasant.
