In the last couple of years, Florence and the Machine has taken off as one of the best and most unique bands in the world

. Their individual style that is a combination of rock and soul has led to the growing of a large fan base worldwide. Although the band was extremely popular in the United Kingdom for some time, it snuck up on American audiences with various smash hits including "Dog Days Are Over". The BBC has been instrumental in the band's mainstream success, showcasing Florence and the Machine on BBC Introducing. Now that American music lovers have picked up on the English indie rock band, Florence and the Machine constantly makes North American tour stops. Their popularity has helped sell Florence and the Machine tickets to their numerous shows and now they've gone back on the road for summer more concerts.

Formation and Getting Signed

The lead singer of the band, Florence Welch, was actually signed to another band before forming what is now called Florence and the Machine. Under a different name, Florence Robot/Isa Machine, Welch worked with Isabella "Machine" Summers for some time. But her first band was actually a group called Ashok with which was signed to Filthy Lucre/About Records and recorded the album Plans. "Happy Slap", an early version of her later hit "Kiss with a Fist" was included on this album. Florence quickly felt like she was in the wrong band and subsequently resigned from Ashok. After that point, she went back to look for a band and hooked up with people she had worked with for a long time.

As a result, Tom Monger, Mark Saunders, Isabella Summers, Chris Hayden, and Robert Ackroyd were all asked to help Florence form a new band. That new band took its name from her and Summers' first performing name, having been shortened right before a performance. Florence followed manager Mairead Nash into a restroom and sung "Something's Got a Hold On Me" to impress him. Soon after in 2009, Florence and the Machine released Lungs, their debut album which eventually stayed at number two for five straight weeks and was actually number one in England. Eventually, the album was made available for download in the United States where it peaked at number one. The lead single, "Kiss with a Fist", was featured in numerous films and television shows including 90210.

That was just the first of many singles from the album that would go on to make Florence and the Machine an international rock success. Songs like "Dog Days Are Over" and "Cosmic Love" were extremely popular and also featured in various films and shows such as The Vampire Diaries and Grey's Anatomy. In 2011, the band released its second album called Ceremonials. Since then, the band has been nominated for various awards and continues to grow their fan base.

Currently, Florence and the Machine is on tour in various countries and cities. On the American leg of the tour, the band can be seen performing live in Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan before heading back to Canada and abroad.
