Florence Museums to Tell About the Historical Past of the City
The capital of Italy, Florence is famous for its wide variety of museums that tell about the historical past of the city
. Displaying the best of Italian culture and art, tourists are spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting the best that will measure up to their expectations. They preserve some of the best architecture, culture and art.
-National Archaeological: This is situated strategically in Palazzo della Crocetta and ranked among Florence museums that display the historical past of the city.
-Carriages: This showcases some of the carriages and other transport means that were in used in the 18th and 19 century. They are highly decorative and some even have panels that are painted with landscapes. Most of them were used for special and grand occasions such as Carrozza d'Oro.
-Palatine Gallery: Ideally located on the 1st floor of the Palatine gallery, there are around 500 Renaissance paintings displayed here. Some were owned by the Medicis and their successors after them. Some of the works on display here include those done by Raphael, Correggio, Titians and Rubens among others. Though this is the case, the gallery represents the front of privately owned work.
-Porcelain: Located in the Casino del Cavaliere, it showcases porcelain artifacts from several European factories. They present some of the most unique collection known as the biscuit figurines. Here, visitors can learn where the concept originated from with much ease.
-Institute and Museum of the History of Science: Founded back in 1927 it is widely known for its display of the middle finger of Galileo Galilei. History has it that it was that it was brought here after his remains were taken to another burial site in 1737.
-Museo dell' Opera del Duomo: It is known for preserving great original works of art and sculptures from the Florence Cathedral such as those by Luca, Donatello, Andrea della Robbia and Michelangelo among others. This showcase hoe far the art industry has come while at the same time depicting some of the outstanding features that define the culture of these people in the past.
-Museo di Storia Naturale: This showcases history through 6 different exhibits. It is open throughout except on Wednesdays during the mornings and the entire day on Saturday. It dates back to 1775 and showcases some of the best Italian artwork.
