For safe driving a sufficiently long stretch of road has to be clearly visible. If there is not adequate light the road will not be visible, and it will be as bad as driving blind. Red would have been the ideal color, but since red color light is used as a stop signal, there is scope for confusion if red color fog lights are used. So the next best color yellow is chosen. If you need to get to your destination in time and suddenly the weather turns inclement and foggy. To avoid disappointment it is better to have fog lights installed.
