Foot Pain Causes -- Why Have I Got Sore Feet?
In order to be able to treat foot pain we have to first determine what has caused it
. Removing pain without establishing the source is like applying a temporary bandage the pain will simply return.
It is crucial that we establish what has caused the foot pain, how to treat it and then, how if at all possible, to stop it arising again in the future.
- Common Causes of Foot Pain
There are several everyday scenarios that contribute to foot pain and sore feet. Here is a list of the most likely culprits.
The stresses and train of the daily grind
An increasing number of foot problems are caused by what we may term sheer wear and tear. Every day, the average person puts a lot of miles on their feet and all this takes a toll.
Often, it is not possible to avoid putting at least a certain number of miles on your feet, that is unless of course, you are able to spend most of your life in bed!
Those living in a city simply have to walk considerable distances as part of normal daily routine, commuting, working, leisure etc.
Even standing still for extended periods of time, which is part of many peoples jobs, exerts considerable pressure on your feet.
Standing in one spot exerts considerable pressure on the same limited group of muscles, thus causing increasing fatigue.
If you do stand around in one spot all day, your veins can get weak, allowing fluid to build up in the ankles. This fluid build up is called edema and can cause joint stiffness.
The demands of Fashion fashionable yet painful shoes
The cause of so many foot problems is actually inappropriate ill-fitting shoes. Feet were never designed for stiletto heels and pointy toes.
High heels are often blamed for ankle related problems, and clogs can cause strain on the feet and ankles.
By placing fashion above comfort your feet will suffer. Not surprisingly perhaps, women are several times more likely to suffer from foot problems than men.
It can even result in problems in other parts of the body back pain being a common result of ill-fitting shoes.
The way you sit
Interestingly, if you often sit with your feet crossed or tucked underneath you, you can cause a lot of strain and stress on your feet, especially over extended periods of time.
Your choice of hobby
Unfortunately, even your leisure choices can lead to foot pain. Certain activities such as hiking and climbing can cause a lot of stress on your feet.
The same applies for long distance running. It is crucial to get expert advice if you are going to embark on such activities.
Reluctance to allow time for healing
An added complication is that foot injuries can heal slowly or incorrectly because people with these types of injuries are often unable or unwilling to stay off their feet long enough to allow for proper recovery.
