Football or (soccer) depending on where you live has grown into the world's most exciting sport. The game starts with two team of 11 players, made up of 10 outward players and one football goalkeeper. Football is played on a rectangular pitch with Goalposts on each side if the rectangular pitch. Football has officials who are responsible for overseeing the game and making sure fair play' is adhered to at all times. These officials are called Referees and Linesmen. Referees are in overall charge of the game and linesmen look out for the ball being in and out of play and whether a team is in an offside position. The linesmen acts as a back up for the referee and two linesmen are situated out of play on opposite ends of the pitch.

Football players wear boots or cleets as they are often called in america. These boots are specially designed to grip on grass surfaces and to allow players to pass and kick effectively. Main brands of boots are Addidas, Umbro, Reebok, Puma and Nike. Players these days will have coloured boots to match there own personalities.

Football has had a colorful history and has an international following and stadium's vary in crowds upto 80,000 in some places. As well as domestic leagues, football clubs will also play for there respective clubs in european and worldwide competitions. The most well known ones being the UEFA and European cup. Qualification for these competitions is usally taken from the winners of the top league for that country and in certain areas cup winners are included. At the finally of the competition, one team will be crowned the kings of europe.

International football is the pinnacle of any football players career. This is where the best players are called upon to play for their resprentative countries. This is where football history has been truly written. With players such as Pele, Maradonna, David Beckham, Gary Lineker and others, the world cup has a real carnvial atmosphere. To qualfy for the world cup each team is drawn together to see who will proceed to the next round. The World cup is held once every four years and because of the prestige and money it can bring into a country it is sought after competition with many countries preparing breathtaking bids to see which country the delegates will pick to host the competition.
