Formatting Of Fonts

While typing some specific work on the computer

, especially if it is your duty to impress not only with content, but visual image, one should remember certain rules of choosing the appropriate writing style. In particular, there are some families of fonts, united with similar construction of letters inscription. Fonts within a family are closely related, using variations of the basic outlines of the letters. Some common variations are extended, compressed, outline, bold and subtle fonts.

Each of these fonts might be stylized in appliances of computer editors in correspondence to individual preferences. Do not use italics or bold type at random, or you must have good reasons for using such styles. Do not use bold font in a certain way just because the whole paragraph was typed in normal font. The choice is dictated by some traditions: the name of movies, books, magazines and any published works are typed in italics. Foreign words are also commonly typed in italics.

Three ways of formatting font style should be mentioned as well:

1.Kerning is the reduction of gaps between certain pairs of letters in order to achieve good readability. In computer appliances kerning pairs are defined by default, notwithstanding that professional programs might operate thousands of such pairs and facilitate user to improve his typing if letters are looking very clumsy.

2.Tracking is a parameter, which installers a certain distance between letters; in contrast to kerning, it adjusts space length for a number of letters, rather than just a space between a pair. If you line the font from the both sides, right and left, you could also see that the gaps between letters appear to be different. It is also important not to overwhelm the text with tracking support, as it might become hard to read and twisted a lot.

3.Leading is the space between lines of text measured from baseline of one line to the baseline of the next line. This interval should contribute to the readability of the entire text paragraph.

To navigate these formats, it is also appropriate to provide some basic rules:

-Do not use a font that consists of one upper-case letters. It is more difficult to read than a font, which consists of upper and lower letters.

-Do not use several different font families in a single project (outlines and italics, bold and compressed, etc.).

-Do not use a font with no kerning for demonstration purposes.

-Do not leave too much or too little space between lines of text.
