. This 60 metre high small hill is a haven among the busy city life of Singapore. It is situated in the Southeast of Singapore and is in the heart of the business district. It is of architectural, cultural as well as botanical importance to the visitor.
Once inside the park, there are many sites that you can visit and enjoy such as the fragrant spice gardens, beautiful array of colourful flowers and foliage in the botanical gardens and historical architectural carvings, while you stroll down the gardens and walkways. Legend has it that the Fort Canning Park Hill was once believed to have been palaces of the ancient kings and also the last burial place of the Malay King, Keramat Iskandar Shah. This fort also served as an important site during the World War II, as it served as the headquarters of the Singapore Base District. It is also the site of the official residence of the father of Singapore, Sir Stamford Raffles who built his residence on the hill.
Forbidden Hill, Government Hill or Fort Canning Park as it is known now was named after the Governor-General and the first Viceroy of India, Viscount Charles John Canning. An excavation site reveals the history of this park by displaying the ancient artifacts of years past. The Fort Canning Park offers the tourist a variety of educational, entertainment, cultural and recreational activities and experiences.
