Free Credit Rating Government - U.S. Consumers Are entitled to a Free Credit Report
Under the Fair Credit Act, all US consumers are entitled to receive one free credit report each year.
These are compiled by three different consumer reporting bureaus, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. In order to receive them, though, you must personally request a copy.
Aurora Lillo Editor of the "Best Credit Reporting Services" website -- http://www.BestCreditReportServices.com -- pointed out;
"...In other words, this information is not automatically sent to you once per year but is rather sent upon your request. You can request the report from all three agencies at one time or you can request it from one at a time spaced out in any way you choose over a one year period..."
Each of these three separate consumer reporting companies collect and compile slightly different data, therefore their information may vary. Small local and state wide credit agencies around the country collect information about your financial habits directly from creditors in your area. Any financial transactions you are involved in that involve credit, including your payments made, are reported directly to a local agency every month. Thus your financial history is detailed on an ongoing basis and sent to these smaller agencies who in turn pass it onto the larger agencies. Some creditors pass on information to all three of the larger bureaus whereas a merchant may only send information to one. This is why you may find information on one report that is not included on another. For this reason it is a good idea to request your report from all three bureaus as otherwise you may not receive a complete picture of all of your financial dealings and history.
"...There are several reasons why you should carefully review the information contained on these reports. Identity theft is on the increase; however this is easily spotted by reviewing this information. If you see transactions listed that you were not involved in, that should immediately send an alert that something may be amiss. Likewise, if you are planning on asking for a loan it would be a good idea to check your rating first as that may give you some idea of whether your request would be granted or not. If you do this in advance you will have time to correct any mistakes that have erroneously appeared on your report, as well as time to resolve anything that may reflect negatively on you. For example, if one of your credit cards is maxed-out that would show up on your record. If you have given yourself enough time you could easily re-allocate this amongst your other cards, thus immediately improving your score..." added A. Lillo.
As you are eligible for this free report once every year it is highly recommended that you take advantage of the opportunity to receive it.
