Freedom From Chest Strap Heart Monitors
Heart Rate monitors have certainly come a long way since first coming on the market
. Initially, monitors were really only accessible to the average public through a doctor visit. Then companies came out with the chest strap model aimed for those fitness aficionados to use while they were working out.
The problem with the older chest strap type models was the fact that they were just too bulky. You had to wear a large strap/band around your chest. Then you had to use a gel to lubricate the electrodes that were applied to your chest under the strap. The process was quite intense.
Now, technology has taken these once hard to use systems and truly turned them into a work of modern technological art. No longer do users have to wear these units around their chest, they can now be strapped to your wrist or upper arm. No more lubricating gels, no more bulky straps around your body.
The newer style heart monitors have loads of features. They are no longer just for monitoring your base heart rate. One of these nice additional features is being able to set target workout zones. Once you know the maximum heart rate you shouldn't go over for each fitness outing, you can set these monitors to notify you when your target heart rate is met during your workout. This can be vital to those who want to make sure that they do not overload their heart during any given workout.
Many people exercise to lose weight. These newer style devices can help you there. For example, some units can tell you how many calories you have burned and tell you when you have hit the best zone for burning fat. This can be a great feature for those that really want to get the maximum benefits out of each workout. So you can now know when your heart has had enough and when you have reached your body's limit, as well as knowing if you have not worked out long enough to burn the fat and calories you need to lose weight.
A newer and more advanced feature found on some monitors is GPS. When you workout outdoors, whether running, walking or biking, this can be helpful in determining how fast you have gone and the distance you have traveled. You no longer have to travel your fitness route in a car to measure the distance. You can now just step outside your front door and head any which way you like; the monitor will take care of the rest.
These are just a few examples of how heart rate monitors have changed. Each model will vary; some monitors have more features and some less. This allows for each person to be able to decide what features they will actually use or need.
