Fremont Honda Dealers Ready To Sell Great Electric Cars
Okay, I have to admit I have never considered buying an electric car
. I cant even keep track of my phone charger, so how could I depend on a car charger? But seriously, the real reason was that hybrid and electric cars just seemed like they were, well, not for me.
Plug-in cars were what people like my neighbor drove, people who ate only organic food, watched little TV and listened to NPR. Not that theres anything wrong with people like that, but they werent me. I never wanted to be that person. But over the last couple of years I have mellowed a bit. Besides, the mileage and the speed for electric cars is increasing all the time and the price is becoming more reasonable. What more could a guy want?
Fremont Honda dealers want to start selling electric cars. They will get their chance soon enough. Robert Bienenfeld, Hondas senior manager for environmental and energy strategies, recently spoke about the place of the plug-in electric car in America.
If you have a product that people want, others will just climb al over each other to build the infrastructure for those cars. If you have a lousy car, its really hard to build infrastructure. We dont usually have a technology revolution based on an inferior product, Bienenfeld claimed.
In the language of the average car buyer, I think what this Honda executive was trying to say is that Honda has been paying attention to the market trends and is attempting to build what the public wants to buy. Fremont used Honda customers will help determine if the electric plug-in is what we are after.
I believe, though, that with the emphasis on energy saving, tax incentives being thrown out left and right for any effort on the part of Americans to save a watt or a gallon, and the improvements in distance and accessibility made in the electric vehicles now being made, we just may be headed down to the lot to charge ourselves an electric car or two.
Fremont Honda dealers hope that is the case, anyway. Although statistics differ brand to brand and model to model, some fully electric vehicles are now reportedly getting well into double-digit miles on pure electric power and can reach speeds of over 65 mph.
With the plug-ins becoming as comparable to gasoline vehicles as they have, those of use who were afraid of them, opposed to them on political or cultural grounds, or just plain wanted to go faster will start to take notice and test drives. Fremont used Honda customers will begin to find themselves drawn to an electric option.
So, in order to be true to myself and fair to my neighbor, even if he does listen to NPR, I think I will take a spin in the new electric Honda and see if its me. And why wouldnt it be? If it can travel at a reasonable speed, save on fuels costs and, most importantly, has a charger big enough that I cant misplace it, I think Ill be sold!
