From Jukebox Music To Modern Day Hits (70s Era)
In this generation where everything is advancing and changing
, there are also several things around us that have rapidly changed. The night clubs for example. From about 1900 to 1920 before the US prohibition occurred, working class Americans would gather at a place called honky tonks or juke joints. Unlike todays era, disco or discotheque or much known as nightclubs doesnt use laser lights to add for the entertainment. In fact, people in the days of 1900 to 1920 dances to music played on a piano or a jukebox.
Before 1953, most night clubs and bars utilize live bands for their music or a jukebox if a live band is not available. In 1947, a club named"Whisky Gogo" was founded in Paris.Whisky Gogoput up the typicalfeaturesof the modern post World War II discothque-style nightclub. In 1953,Rgine Zylberberg a well-known night club manager in Paris, laid down a dance floor, suspended colored lights and instead of using jukebox for the music, she utilized two turntables which she operated herself. Her purpose of using turntables instead of jukebox is for the music to play continually without breaks. Regine has widely attributed the invention of modern day discotheque.
Several coffee bars in Soho then introduced afternoon dancing at the end of 1950s. One of the most popular coffee bars in this period was Les Enfants Terribles. The original discotheques cater to a very young public so they were nothing like the night clubs. Night clubs only attained mainstream attention during the disco era during the 70s.
Many major US cities had thriving disco clubs where DJs play disco hits through public address system (PA system) by the late 1970s. Some of the popular disco clubs also utilizes elaborate lighting systems that adds flavor to the beat of the music. Some cities even have disco instructors or dance schools which taught people how to perform popular disco dances.
Aside from the dance and fashion aspects, a drug subculture is also growing especially for recreational drugs that were said to enhance the experience of dancing to the loud music. Some of these recreational drugs are cocaine, amyl nitrite (poppers) and Quaalude which suspends the motor coordination of the user.

Studio 54 (Manhattan)
Xenon (New York City)
The Loft (New York City)
Paradise Garage(New York City)
Aux Puces (One of the first gay disco bars)(New York City)
