From Woodsman To The Urban City Dweller, The Widespread Use Of Barbecue Sauce
It used to be that only the wild and independent types were the ones grilling over open flames in the great outdoors
. Those crazy eyed warriors who hunted their own food, did their own butchering, and cooked their meat while holding it on a stick. Then, as barbecue sauce became a more popular item, they started selling grills, even ones that came with little propane tanks. After that, stores dedicated to grilling started appearing and everyone was well on their way to becoming a bit more savage.
In modern days, the outdoorsman still unracks his rifle or bow, seeks out his prey, and will still butcher and cook his kill. In this world we live now there are the other types of hunters too, who wear flip-flops and a shirt with Hawaiian prints on it. They push their shopping carts carefully, slowly hunting out the right cut of beef or pork at the right price. Once they have locked onto a target they seize the moment, and another kill, or sale in this case, is made.
In the highest of high rises you will find those who have their little grills fired up on a small balcony overlooking the city. They will slather on the barbecue sauce just like the shaggy bearded guy in nowhere Montana who just cut up some venison steaks, and the two are as one at that moment. The primal man has shown up in both cases. One may be cooking alone, while the other is amongst millions of people, but both are completely one with nature and both are savoring the smell of that delicious meat as the juices drip onto the flames, making them hungry.
All in all, there is little difference between these two groups, as well as adding in the small town country boy and the suburban homemaker. Everyone has that primal need for something delicious to eat, and everyone enjoys a little sunshine on his or her face as well. Being outside and preparing great food is a universal joy amongst mankind. These universal things can be found in New York City as easily as Cutbank Montana, Des Moines Iowa, and Salt Lake City Utah. It does not matter where you are or how you do it, as long as you are becoming one with mankind and enjoying that delicious barbecue sauce dripping from that piece of meat.
