Fuel Surcharges: When They Apply In Taxis

Throughout the United States a large number of taxi services have had to have fuel surcharges applied

. The main reason that taxi companies are applying fuel surcharges is the price of gas. Gas prices have been very high for most of the year and cab drivers and the cab companies are finding it hard to make ends meet. With the biggest share of their money going toward the purchase of gas it does not leave much for living expenses. Because gas prices kept going up all across the country the taxi services were allowed to start charging a fuel surcharge. This was to offset some of the expense incurred in transporting passengers.

Due to recent economic events around the world the fuel surcharges are working differently. Some taxi companies in the United States have been involved in negotiations over the fuel surcharges. In some places the surcharge on fuel has been reversed. The reason for this is the fact that gas prices have dropped significantly. The main reason for this drop is from the price of oil dropping dramatically, which has come about because of the economic crisis that is being felt all over the world. The state of the economy has a big impact on fuel prices. It also is affecting taxi drivers and taxi companies. Although fuel has come down other prices remain high and with the fuel surcharge removed taxi drivers and taxi companies are feeling the pinch. They no longer have a way to keep their prices high in order to turn a profit.

What some governing organizations have decided to do is to put a fuel surcharge in effect when the price of gas starts going up again. So when gas prices seem to be inflated the fuel surcharge will be allowed once again. Companies like taxi services are hit hard when the price of fuel rises as it did at the beginning of the year. By allowing the fuel surcharge to be implemented when fuel reaches such high prices, cab companies may be able to profit. As long as gas prices stay reasonably priced the fuel surcharge will stay inactive. Not all cab companies have done away with the fuel surcharge. In some areas of the United States fuel surcharges remain in effect. Whether your area is affected by void surcharges is up to governing organizations. They may have different reasons for keeping the surcharge going.
