Functional Importance Of Spacers

In any home or property where there are consumers there would be equipment

, furniture, fixtures and structures which require spacers. These hardware pieces are commonly known as standoffs; although they are small pieces of hardware, they play an important role in any building or premise that serves to bring comfort and convenience to the occupants.

Purpose

Spacers come in a variety of types and sizes but all serve one function; they are meant to reduce friction and abrasion while ensuring a good grip and snug fit to the relevant parts in motion. Many spacers have a double take on function; they are insulation entities which separate metal pieces that are prone to cause electrical hazard if come into contact with one another. Spaces are used as fasteners or cable separators in electronics and circuitry applications.

Production

There is a myriad of spacers in the marketplace that are produced in huge quantities. The wide range of available materials to produce spacers makes it very conducive for manufacturers in their operation.

Different types of spacers are manufactured according to the different applications in the varying environments; for example, metal spacers are produced for heavy duty applications while non conducting applications use plastic or PVC spacers. The latter are preferred for their non-corrosive properties.

Types

Spacers can be made of various materials such as nickel, aluminum, brass, stainless steel and alloys which are great for decorative purposes. Applications and technology have churned out spacers of various shapes such as hexagonal, round and oval with inner threads which provide a good grip.

Spacers made of brass are common in interior design as decorative pieces; many furniture applications use them as part of the furniture dcor. Shelves and glass display cabinets use spacers as a separator of glasses and racks while glass panels and screens fall under possible applications with spacers.

Brass spacers come with various finishes such as nickel and chrome plating; many consumers prefer polished silver for a better appearance.

There are also stainless steel spacers for domestic and commercial applications such as mirror production and sign mounting. Soft vinyl washers are fitted for a better grip and fewer abrasions.

Finally, aluminum spacers are used outside the home or building as they offer non-corrosive and rust resistant features. Hence, these spacers do not get damaged in changing adverse weather conditions. These spacers look great with a smooth finish through the process of anodizing if better quality aluminum is used. They make a great dcor piece for art displays, photo mounts and architectural murals.
