Eversince the showing of Avatar the movie, the 3D industry will never be the same again. The movie re-ignited the consumer's interest on 3D technology. The technology itself has been around for decades but there wre a lot of imperfections. With the accelerated improvements of technology, more and more of the issue of 3D technology in the past decade are now going away. Just recently you hear and read about 3D laptops and 3D TV where you don't need the glasses. This alone is a remarkable improvement in the technology itself.

But this industry is without its critics. Some say 3D TV and 3D games are just fads that will die away. The sales for 3D TV for the year 2010 was also short of disappointing. It's good however to have a bird's eyeview on the matter so that we can better map out where the future trend of 3d - especially 3d games - will be. It's important to note that in 2010 the world was coming out from a recession - which basically means that people are careful with their money. The years prior to this saw the explosion of sales in HDTV as well so it's more unlikely that people would like to buy another TV. The biggest factor though are those glasses. People would like to multi-task while watching TV such as preparing and having a feed. This would be exceptionally tricky if you have those 3d glasses on. However, as mentioned above, a glasses-free 3D TV has already been produced and what's likely to remain is more improvement on the existing technology and more 3d movies and 3d games to develop in order for this to take off.

And that's where we are heading now.Game companies are busy producing 3D games. You have Nintendo 3DS coming into the stage with such high publicity. And the industry as a whole is in an upward trend again.3D technology is actuallybeing labelled as the comeback kid. and rightly so. But where is it headed? Where will the trend for 3d games be?

The future trend for 3D games relies on amalgamating and integrating other technologies that are also developing. As discussed above, a glasses-free 3D tV is still in its infancy. But it's certainly will get to the point that this technology will be close to perfection. And once this happens, you would see change on the web. That's right! What used to be a 2D horizontal drop down menu will be a Rubik's-cube-like menu in 3D where you can rotate and choose a menu item.We would also see an increase of videoson websites who would like to take advantage of this 3d technologyto achieve a long lasting effect and experience to its viewers.And with 3d games users will have a more fullerexperience playing the game and can also experience a much more realistic particpation - especially with first-person shooter games. But we're getting ahead of the story.

Remember Virtual Reality? It's like being part of another world when you put on those VR glasses and gloves. By having these equipment, you can interact with the digital objects that you view in your VR goggles. But take the technology used in Kinect and the improvement of 3d tv minus the glasses plus the aspects that make VR unique, then you are close to travelling the digital divide. And the gaming experience will never be the same again - espcially when you can interact and manipulate digital objects with your bare hands. And this gives 3d gaming a more exciting flavor. Imagine playing Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter in this environment? There's only on more piece left to make it feel like you are in the Matrix.

Enter 3D holographic games. Just some months ago we saw this technology being used by a news organization that featured a newscaster on stage talking to another newscaster in holographic format! Amazing! What would stop these gaming companies from letting real life objects interact with digital object? Absolutely nothing! And if you put 3d hologram in the picture then the boundary between reality and what's virtual can become really blurred. Welcome to the Matrix!

3d games and the technology behind it is definitely still in its infancy. In the next couple of years we will see a trend that will combine all these exciting techologies to produce a more vivid and realistic 3d gaming experience that will make our jaws drop!
