GRE Registration Tips
The Graduate Record Examination or GRE is important for graduate school admission in the United Stated and other English-speaking countries. This is a necessary application requirement for most but not all graduate programs. It is even required by most of English-teaching graduate programs all over the world.
This test is being administered by the Educational Testing Service or ETS which is based in Princeton, New Jersey. Many official testing centers are available all over the world. This test measures a person's skills in verbal reasoning, analytical writing, critical thinking and quantitative reasoning.
The GRE is not focused to a particular field of study. This can either be a paper-based or computer-based test. It depends one the particular part of the world of the official testing centre. Most centers in developed countries like the United States have computer-based testing.
The degree of significance of the test scores depends on the particular graduate school you're applying with. It can also differ from one department of the school to another. Most schools just look at this simply as formality but other schools base their student acceptance on the GRE scores.
Steps in GRE Registration
The steps involved in GRE registration are uncomplicated. The first step is to check the ETS website for the official testing centre nearest or most convenient to you. Then you need to choose an examination date. Weekend dates get filled quickly so you should schedule your test a couple of months in advance in order to ensure a slot. The next step is to officially register by phone or mail. You can check the ETS website for the corresponding phone number and the application form for mail registration is also available online.
The next step for GRE registration is to pay the GRE testing fee. Many modes of payment are available but online credit card payment is the easiest. Just be careful and make sure that you're dealing with the official ETS website. The fifth step is to write down or print your official GRE confirmation number. This officially completes your GRE registration. The last and final step is to arrange your ultimate schedule for the GRE test. Remember to have some time allowance so you can get to the examination centre on time.
Things to Keep in Mind
After completing your GRE registration, you should receive a formal acknowledgement. If you don't receive, contact the ETS. You might have made a mistake in the process or payment. The GRE cannot be taken more than 5 times in twelve months and can only be taken a maximum of once every calendar month. If something suddenly comes up and you can't make it to your examination schedule, contact the ETS for postponement or indefinite cancellation.
If you have health-related necessities like food and medical equipment during your test, make sure to check the ETS website for the special procedure. Check your formal acknowledgement for typographic errors that can create problems or even hinder you from taking the test. Take the test as soon as you can so your test result will make it on time for your school application.
