Garden Bird Baths

A remarkable way of attracting wild bird towards your garden is through a garden birdbath

. Wild birds love to take baths as long as they feel that the location is both safe and quiet.

It is essential that a birdbath remains in the correct temperature and you can do this by attaching a heater to the unheated birdbath or you can choose to buy a birdbath that has a preinstalled heater.

A birdbath that is equipped with a preinstalled heater uses either a power cord that is plugged into an electrical outlet or uses solar panels to power the heater. Birdbath that uses solar-powered heaters are easier to install and requires less maintenance.

Birdbaths with heaters are more likely to last longer as those without heaters because the freezing and melting of water will likely cause cracking in the birdbath's marble or concrete, which is unless the birdbath is kept empty during the winter months.

Putting a dripper on your birdbath not only helps in preventing mosquitoes from laying their eggs onto the water due to constant agitation but it also helps in attracting birds towards your birdbath. This dripper can be made by using a water container with a small hole underneath where water drips over the bowl of the birdbath.

You can also choose to buy readily made drippers. Some can come in complex and elaborate design. Birds prefer birdbaths with drippers because it likely gives them the feeling of raindrops falling over their feathers. Misters can be used for smaller birds such as hummingbirds. However, misters use much more water as compared to drippers.

There are two other ways of preventing mosquitoes from laying their eggs on your birdbath. You can use either a water wiggler or a mosquito dunk.

Water wigglers are battery operated and produce vibrations to create ripples on the surface of the water. This device is quiet and it will not frighten away the birds.

Mosquito dunks are pesticides that stop mosquitoes from breeding. They can be placed anywhere where water accumulates. They work differently from drippers and wigglers as they kill the larva instead of just preventing eggs from being laid.
