Gas Explosions In Edinburgh Flats
SLATEFORD ROAD, EDINBURGH:
On Tuesday 4th May 2010, three primary school children, two boys and a girl died in a gas explosion in a block of flats on Slate ford Road. Their mother was also injured in this incident who was take to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The gas supply at the scene was immediately isolated as a precautionary measure.
Later sources revealed that the three bodies also had stabbed wounds. It also emerged that the mother and three children had been reported missing from their home. There had been a case going on for the custody of the children following a divorce. And the question to be answered by court is if the lady is guilty of stabbing her three kids and blowing up the flat?
GUTHRIE STREET, EDINBURGH:
A gas escape from a fractured main is being regarded as the main cause of explosion which completely destroyed a tenement, killing two people.
Nicola Donnell, 21, who was a student at Napier University and Peter Small, 35, who was a lecturer in Stevenson College. Among the injured are two men and a woman. People shivered watching firemen struggling to prevent the explosion.
MORNINGSIDE, EDINBURGH:
Annie Boyd, 102, survived a gas explosion which blew out the windows and ripped through her flat on Morning side, as she went into the kitchen to make a cup of tea. The explosion took place in the ground floor flat. Mrs. Boys next door neighbor was woken by the blast and climbed through the smashed windows to rescue the elderly lady.
According to reports gas knob was most probably left on in the kitchen, overnight, which ignited when Mrs. Boyd switched on her kettle. Six neighboring flats were immediately evacuated but the residents were allowed to return after it was confirmed that it was not a gas leak from the mains.
GRANTON, EDINBURGH:
A leak from a domestic gas supply exploded in a ground floor flat in Grantor. Ten persons were injured and one suffered from serious burns. The injured were taken to The Western General Hospital while others suffering from minor injuries and shock were taken to local hospitals. The explosion was so intense that it is believed that it blew out windows up to a quarter of a mile away. It threw furniture, glass and debris into the streets. The neighboring flats were evacuated and families were moved to a church hall nearby. It has been decided that the block should be demolished due to bulges and cracks in structural walls.
