These days you can chat direct with our Text Jockeys live on TV, speak on the phone to 100s of people across the UK, whilst watching you messages live on screen. Especially in the Gay market, there has been an explosion of channels.

Long ago, there was only Will and Grace, followed by the TV series Queer as Folk. The next thing we know, the global television scene is now giving prominence to various shows focusing on the gay community and featuring gay characters in the main roles. Although these programs have garnered a lot of avid viewers from non-gay individuals, there are still limited or no Gay TV channels that concentrate more on catering the growing demands of the gay community to have their own niche on television.

Because of the massive efforts of different pro-gay advocates however, more and more people are now understanding the gay culture. And because of the steady global acceptance nowadays, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender themed (LGBT) channels are now coming in the mainstream media. Gay TV channels has now started to proliferate televisions, a country at a time.

Canada became the pioneer country launching the first ever LGBT network with the airing of PrideVision. Other European countries followed suit. In April 2002, Milan, Italy introduced Gay TV. PinkTV also widened its scope by coming up with PinkTV channel based in Paris in October 2005. The US on the other hand, caters Gay TV networks like Q Television, Here! TV, and LOGO. In Germany there is TimmTV. In UK, there are Gay TV channels aired in Sky Digital, and Virgin Media. These include Gay Date TV (Channel 871 in Sky Digital) , Gay Network (Channel 873 in Sky Digital), Gay Prowler TV (Channel 945 in Sky Digital), Gay TV (Channel 935 in Sky Digital and channel 485 in Virgin Media) and others. Even other parts in Asia opened up with the LGBT theme. Hong Kong released the first Asian gay and lesbian broadband channel, Wink TV.

And it's not only on television actually. The internet is also hosting gay centred on-line TV sites and gay TV series video streaming domains. In Youtube, the most prominent gay themed channel is most probably Village TV. These channels usually offers a hodge-podge of pure gay entertainment, and also includes canned gay-themed TV series, films, news reports, documentaries, or even specials.

Little by little, the chains that bond society in a state of homophobia and both the revealed and unsaid gay oppression and harassment are being broken. Gay men are now starting to come out in the open and even fought for their rights. Now, they have entered the mainstream media, in radio, television, magazines, and internet the gay now have a place in the community. Independent gay TV channels is just a start. More is yet to come.
