General Directories are Very Generic

I'm not sure about what the actual stats are, if any exist on this matter but I would say that every .004 seconds, someone puts up a new website listing directory and tries to monetize it to the tune of $5.95 per month for a premium listing. What it seems that is missing in my opinion is more professional business directories that cater to only a professional trade or business genre. Their are even people who make good money at selling directory listing dumps to these generic directory webmasters. Many of the directory webmasters I know I have a good reputation with so I know they run a great directory, I am just astounded at all the new ones that go up daily. Link Dirt is a great directory. He's a friend of mine and I list all my sites there and recomend his service.

Last week I was looking for a professional radio installer to install a radio in my bathroom. I started off by Googling it up and wow, I was astonished to see the many hundreds of listings of local radio contractors, and was even a taken aback somewhat as to the wide variety of all the different types and scope of business doing this job. So, I hoped that since there were so many local installers, there might be a local business directory of custom radio design professionals that might help me narrow down my search faster. Guess what? I found one and it was an awesome site! I was able to search the site by with very distinctive strings and now my wife will be very happy,... after Tuesday.

General directories that list everything from AAA Accounting to Zebra Xylophones are so useless. They shouldn't even be called directories... they should just be called "$5-a-pop-backlinks!" Alright alright, I'm just kidding about that, I suppose they do have a purpose although I could never quite figure out what but I'm stupid anyway so maybe someone here could shed some light on it for me. I'm just saying that directories that are dedicated to a specific industry, trade, business, ect. are much more effective and useful.
