Generate targeted traffic to your website. by:James Bevis

If no one can find your website then it will have been a waste of time

, effort and money getting it put together. Often websites can be expensive and a top end e-commerce site could well reach to over ten thousand pounds, so you need to make the most of your investment. There are several things that you can do to help promote your website online and get you that all important flow of visitors which you can then hopefully transform into customers with great content and an easy to use website. Below are three simple steps which are guaranteed to get some visitors to your site.

1. Write an article related to the main topic of your website.

If you offer a product or service then writing an article about that is a great place to start. You don't have to be an expert author and you don't even really need to be an expert on the subject, just write about what you know. A great topic to focus on is a problem which your product or service resolves. That way you can write about it without directly making a sales pitch which is good as some article directory sites will not publish direct sales literature and also it means people reading your article are likely to be interested in the product or service which you are providing.

The aim of your article is not to make a sales pitch it is merely to get people interested in what it is that you do and also to get a link back to your website which, will help push your site up the search engine rankings. You don't need to include the link to your website in the article itself, this can go in the resource box at the end of the article submission form present on most directory websites.

2. Include a resource box at the end of the article with your website link in it.

Once you have created your article and avoided trying to sell your products you may be thinking that the time was wasted, but this is where the resource box comes into play. In the resource box which is generally located at the end of the article submission form you can include 1 or 2 links back to your website and a very brief sales pitch. In general you need to keep this to less than a couple of hundred words, so think of a short and snappy pitch which will get people to click through to your website. Once they have clicked the link it will be up to the quality of your site's content to sell your product, so it is vitally important to spend some time fine tuning your website. For everyone of your articles that is published you will have 1 or 2 extra links pointing back at your site.

The way you include your link in the resource box is almost as important as including it in the first place. You will ideally have your keywords in your link which points back to a relevant page on your website. Avoid using terms such as click here or see more as these will have less of an effect in terms of search engine optimisation (SEO). You should also try to link to different parts of your website, having lots of links to your home page is great, but you want to be ranked for more than just the content on that, so spread your links among the most important pages of your site and make your you include the correct keywords for each page in the resource box.

3. Submit your article to the major article directories.

So now that you've written your article and made a resource box with a couple of links pointing back to your website with some of your keywords included you'll need to distribute the article to relevant article directories. The easiest way to find them is to do a search for you industry followed by directory or article. If you don't fancy searching around for all the article sites yourself then some sites will distribute the article for you. One such example is isnare but there is a fee for their services.

The more sites you submit your articles to the more links you will get back linking to your site. The amount you need will be dependent on how competitive your particular niche is. It will take a few weeks for some article sites to publish your article and then possibly up to another month for the major search engines to find the links in the resource box. So don't expect rapid results, this process takes time but is definitely worth the effort.

If you make article submissions a part of your ongoing SEO program and the articles you write are original and relevant to your subject you will see a great increase in traffic to your site, giving you a constant feed of potential customers.
