Get Away To Get Ahead

Owning your own business may seem like a 24/7 job running the business

, making plans, and taking care of everything in between, but it shouldnt be. Sometimes, its good to take a break, even small ones. During the day, your mind whirls, and you may feel rushed around, eventually stressing you out. Feeling the pressure of running your business can actually slow you down. Consider the artist. On occasion, such a person would stop in the middle of their work, take a step back, and observe what has been done. This small break allows for mistakes to be seen, plans to be adapted, and then work can progress more effectively.

Choose your time wisely

Budgeting your time is required in business. But, ask yourself this, do you make time for yourself? Most times, small business owners will allow their businesses to own them, rather than the other way around. What you want to do is budget time during the day for yourself as well.

Another thing you have to consider is making decisions on what is needed for the business to run. Small business owners often look for any and all opportunities, from coffee meetings to business gatherings and events. What you should do, to make time for yourself and your business, is decide what is most relevant to your business. You dont want to use precious time on something that isnt going to help your business.

Know your vision and stick with it. That is going to be the most important part of choosing what you need to do, and what you dont need to do.

Give yourself time to think

Now, its time to think. At the grind, you dont often have time to consider what you need to do. Your focus is spread out through various tasks, often preventing you from working toward the future. This is where you budget in the thinking time, not just for your business, but for yourself too.

Ask yourself: what can you do to get away from the picture for a moment so that your mind can consider the situation. Throughout the day, there are times when we find ourselves multitasking, such as driving and talking on the phone. What you want to do is find activities where you arent burdened with your business. Walking your pup, a stroll in the park, or riding your bike and getting some exercise are moments in which you can re-gather your focus. Whatever you do, make sure it is time for you specifically to relieve the burden of work.

Time to reflect

Although there are setbacks in business, you cant think of them that way. Thomas Edison tried over a hundred times to create the light bulb. He didnt let his failures obscure the future, and in fact, he actually looked at his attempts not as failures, but as other ways not to make a light bulb. When you run into a bump in the road, take the time to reflect on your decisions, adapt, and learn from them. This is why it is important to step back and take a look at the picture youre painting.

Making time for yourself is just as important as making time to work. Once you take a step back from your business picture, you will be able to approach your work with new ideas and creative thoughts. Dont forget that to grow, you need to succeed in all aspects of life.
