, we specialise in borehole drilling for water boreholes and boreholes for ground source heat pumps and also soakaway boreholes. A ground source heat pump borehole is drilled to a pre-determined depth and a pipe is installed into the borehole. The pipe is connected to a manifold and then connected to the ground source heat pump, heat transfer fluid is circulated through the system. The borehole is filled with a thermal grout surrounding the pipe to provide the best thermal connection to the surrounding soil or rock to improve theheat transfer. The size of the ground source heat pump and the number of boreholes depends on the size of the property and the geology of the site.

Waterwell boreholes are an alternative to mains water and provide you with your own water supply, this can be used as your own private drinking water supply and provide water to your home and also for irrigation purposes for your garden or for farms. Nicholls boreholes drills and installs water well boreholes for many different reasons. You can extract up to 20,000 litres of water a day without permission or a licence.

We can drill to a depth below the ground water level up to 200m, insert a well casing (to stop the walls collapsing), install a pump (to raise the water to ground level) and fit with a cover to protect the ground water supply from pollution. To determine the depth we need to drill the water boreholes we obtain a borehole prognosis report which tells us the geology of the site and at what depth we need to drill the water boreholes to find a good supply of water. We also use water dowsers that can locate the area in which we should drill the water boreholes to get the best water supply at a particular site. We use high quality borehole drilling equipment which also help us to determin borehole heating or underfloor heating.

Nicholls Boreholes drill and install deep bore soakaways. These are used where traditional soakaways will not work and the cost of installing adequate traditional drainage is excessive. A soakaway borehole is constructed in a similar way to water boreholes we drill and install the soakaway boreholes using British Standard casing. Firstly we drill and install temporary surface casing, we drill the soakaway borehole to the required depth usually with a 200mm diameter, we install upvc liner, between the liner and the side of the borehole is a gap and this is filled using pea gravel this helps to disperse the water evenly from the liner perforations into the soil and backfills the void between the borehole and the liner to allow the installation of the bentonite seals above the perforated section of the pipe, we install the Bentonite seal to a minimum of 2 metres and then a syphon head is fitted on top.
