Get To Know The Other Realtors In The Area When Trying To Sell Your Home

Whenever I get ready to sell a house I make sure to drive around the area to get a look at the other houses for sale in the neighborhood

. Although I don't call for an appointment to see inside most of them, I get a pretty good idea about my competition in the area, and sometimes I get buyers, too.

I have been a real estate investor for many years, so I know other people who buy and sell houses, too. I recognize many of them by their telephone numbers on the For Sale signs in the yards of their houses, just as they recognize mine. So, once in a while I call them up to talk about both of our houses for sale. And sometimes we have valuable information for each other. If my house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms and someone else's house has two bedrooms and one bathroom, well, now that investor has a perfect referral when a potential buyer calls his phone number to inquire about his house. If they are looking for a larger house in the area he can give them my phone number. We can help each other out if we have the right information at the right time.

I learned another tip involving having the right information at the right time when I was waiting to get a flat tire changed in a local auto repair shop one day. I overheard another customer talking to a mechanic about needing a house in the area by the time school started in the fall. Of course I talked to that customer when I got a chance, but more importantly, I talked to the auto mechanics about my house for sale. As a result of talking to auto mechanics and hairdressers in various parts of town, I've made more than one sale. So now I make a point to get the word out to people who work in the same neighborhood when I want to sell a home.

Driving around the neighborhood at different times of day is also a good idea. There will be a lot more people around on weekends during the day, and that is when real estate agents are holding open houses. If I see an open house sign nearby when I'm driving around the area getting ideas to sell my house I stop by and talk to the real estate agent if the house is open at that particular time, or I jot down her phone number and give her a call. I can pay a real estate agent a referral fee if she sends me homebuyers or renters for my home, depending on what I need. This idea has worked for me more than once as well.
