Getting A Hair Surgery To Slow Hair Loss

Hair loss results when the rate of shedding hair does not match that of hair re-growth

. Hair loss is a universal problem which affects both men and women of any age. There are many factors that can result in hair loss. Examples of these factors include diseases such as cancer, poor nutrition, medication for treating gout or heart disease, use of hair treating chemicals, hormonal imbalances or scalp infections. Genetics also plays a role in causing hair loss. However, thinning of hair is a natural condition which occurs due to the aging process.

There are many suggested treatments for hair loss but many of them are ineffective. Usually, it is easier to maintain what is left than to re-grow more hair. There are very few drugs that are commonly recommended for hair loss. One of the most effective treatments is the hair transplant or hair restoration surgery. This treatment is usually costly and above the means of most people. However, it can prove cheaper in the long run since, you only get to do it once and the results last a lifetime.

The surgery involves removing hair from the areas of the head that usually remain with hair. These areas are the sides and the back of the head. It is then removed from these areas and transplanted to the top of the head where there has been hair loss. The hair follicle is also transplanted, which means that the hair is able to now grow on its own. There are different types of hair transplants, and one gets to choose the one that works best for them. You can choose a micro transplant surgery of the scalp, where baldness has affected only a small section. Scalp tucking is very useful for people who have developed scars due to an operation or accident.

Surgery normally takes between eight to fourteen hours. This depends on the type of surgery being performed and also on the number of grafts needed. After the operation, there is normally a dormant period of between three to four months where hair growth is not easily noticeable. After this period, it usually takes between six and eight months for the hair to attain a natural look and for density to be restored in the bald or thinning area. The decision to have hair transplant lies on an individual although a surgeon will have to be consulted before proceeding.
