It's a smart idea to start advertising your yard sale. The best way to get the word out in your neighborhood is with some simple yard signs placed at intersections or parks. Lawn and yard signs are cheap and easy to order and just as easy to install. It's important to include the location of your yard sale and a description of the kinds of goods you're selling, but make sure to keep it short and to the point. Yard sales and garage sales have all sorts of knick-knacks on sale. A brief description will help a potential customer decide on visiting.

The big problem with yard sales and garage sales is that they're always located at someone's house. Navigating the cul-de-sacs, dead ends and maze of streets in a neighborhood can be a nightmare. It's enough to turn away a number of would be customers. No one wants to figure out the directions to a yard sale. The old marketing adage, "Location, Location, Location" holds true for the biggest of the multibillion dollar companies and the smallest of yard sales.

The best way to not lose customers to location is by making sure they know where they're going and making it as easy as possible. Use directional signs in the neighborhood to point drivers in the right direction. Make sure they're visible. It wouldn't be a bad idea to place a balloon or two on the sign so it grabs attention.

In addition to good sign habits, it's important to get the word out on your yard sale. Tell your friends and have them tell their friends. Tell them to come over even if they're not going to buy anything. Large crowds will draw the attention of people driving by.

Lastly, a yard sale is hard work so have fun with it when you can and relax when it's over!
