Getting Ready For Your Move
Buying a new house is always an exciting new step in any family's life
. But moving never is. As much fun as it is to move into a new area, meet new neighbors, and design and decorate a new house, no one every really wants to think about the actual moving part of the equation. That's because moving is exhausting, both emotionally and physically. It's also extremely time consuming. But even though you may hate to do it, it's a necessary evil. So you might as well do it in the least painful way possible. If you are preparing for a big move, here are a few tips to help you complete the move with as little stress and hassle as possible.
First, before you start packing up all your belongings, think about what you can get rid of. Moving is a great time to de-clutter and get rid of all the things you've accumulated over the years that you don't need. Find a box and start filling it with things you won't miss. Consider donating these items to a thrift store, second-hand store, or homeless shelter. It may not have crossed your mind that your move could be a way to give service, but donating unneeded items is a great way to give back to the community. However, if you're not in a financial position to be able to give away your things, consider organizing a yard sale. As the saying goes, one man's trash is another man's treasure. A yard sale is great way to de-clutter and earn a little cash at the same time.
Now that you've de-cluttered a little bit, you can start packing up your things. First, make a careful inventory of everything you box up. Numbering your boxes and coordinating them with your inventory can be a great way to organize. This will be important information later when you are unpacking. If you decide to hire a professional mover, which can be a great way to alleviate stress, they may provide moving boxes. If not, you can purchase moving boxes or asked for used and unwanted boxes at department and grocery stores. They are usually more than happy to get rid of them. When packing up fragile items like dishes and glassware, use double corrugated boxes for extra protection. Cushion the bottom with crumpled paper and then wrap each piece individually with packing paper. Always pack items like plates and saucers on their edge, which is sturdier. When packing books, try to find boxes with handles. Books can make for heavy boxes, so handles will be ideal for carrying. By following these simple tips, you will help alleviate a lot of the stress of moving.
