There are school programs and licenses available that should be considered to help people break into the industry and make the most of their career.

Court reporters are in charge of capturing a verbatim account of legal events such as court proceedings. It is important to record what happens in the courtroom and during various meetings for future reference and legal proof of what was said and by whom. Because these transcripts must be extremely accurate, there are certain skills that are necessary for this position. Good listening abilities and the capacity to type quickly are crucial for a thriving court reporter career.

A person who determines they possess the necessary skills for this career should consider formal education and training. There are three different types of reporting - stenotype, electronic reporting, and voice recording. The amount of training depends on the type of reporting chosen. There are plenty of vocational schools and colleges that offer programs in all three areas.

In many cases, after graduates have completed the necessary training requirements, it is recommended that they become licensed by the state in which they wish to work. In order to obtain this licensure, states require prospective court reporters to take an exam that tests a person?s spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, accuracy, speed, and silence.

Embarking on a court reporter career is a rewarding experience. Working alongside judges and lawyers in a courtroom can be very exciting. A little bit of research and the proper training is all it takes to get in on the action and advance in this industry.
