Getting Started With Basic Scrapbooking Supplies
You don't have to buy all of your scrapbook supplies from a store
. Supplies can be very basic items found around the house or collected from magazines and newspapers. Though one thing most scrappers will agree upon is that a good scrapbook album is needed as a basis for beginning a great scrapbook, and you shouldn't skimp on its quality if you want it to last.
Scrapbook albums come in many sizes. Mini albums are convenient to store, while larger albums hold much more information and allow for more creativity in decoration and embellishment. Some albums have pages that are permanently bound into the album, while others allow pages to be removed or added to the album. Choose the type of album that will be easiest for your scrapbooking experience.
Many scrapbook crafters choose clear page protectors to preserve their works of art when they are completed. After all the effort of choosing the right photograph and embellishments to go on a page, a page protector is really an important part of preserving a scrapper's personal history on a page by page basis.
Each paper item used on a scrapbooking page should be made of acid-free paper. Acid-free paper is archival paper which will be much less likely to become brittle or discolor. Choose paper the same size as your album if you have chosen an album with removable pages and don't forget to purchase plenty of page protectors.
Next, select the type of glue you would like to use to affix your embellishments onto your scrapbook pages, again, acid-free is best. Since you are crafting a work of art, you want to choose materials and supplies that will keep their texture and color longer over the years. Acid-free materials are always the best choice for your scrapbooking needs.
Scissors are an important purchase for many scrappers. Choosing a good pair of scissors may cost a bit more money, but will be worth it in accuracy of cutting and less frustration while cutting. Choose a larger pair of scissors to cut out larger items to go on your scrapbook pages. You will probably also need a pair of scissors with smaller, more accurate blades for scrapbook embellishments with tiny details.
With some basic supplies and a good quality album, you'll be pumping out scrapbook after scrapbook before you know it. And remember, the most important thing about scrapbooking is to have fun!
