These drugs are meant to be taken for 2 to 5 days, and they can reduce many of the symptoms of herpes.

Suppressive treatment is administered to people in whom outbreaks are frequent occurrences. This herpes treatment will involve taking antiviral drugs every day. For people who have several outbreaks a year, suppressive treatment can reduce these instances by as much as 70% to 80%. Most people who take such drugs daily usually show no symptoms at all.
