Start spending much more time taking care of yourself. Because unless there is a great relationship within yourself, your external relationships are not going to be ideal either.

Once you've given yourself some breathing space and been kind to yourself, then you can begin thinking about what you need to do to get that understanding with your ex girlfriend back to what it ought to be.
