The wound is usually together with the fingernails so if the nail collides with any object the wound may not heal fast, it ay even worsen to the point that it can get infected. Always make sure that the nail is clean and that it is always disinfected to cure the wound faster. Once you had the spilt nail, wash it with water and an anti-microbial soap. Dry the hands and apply a generous amount of anti-inflammatory cream or ointment on to the spilt nail. Apply it across the nail to avoid infection. Protect the nails from foreign objects and germs by using a bandage. Do this everyday and eventually you can get rid of split nails. For serious cuts or wounds, always remember to consult a doctor. Doing self treatment on cases where there is blood underneath the nail or pus and numbness can lead to even serious problems and infections.
Preventing Spilt nails
When doing things that may involve heavy and sharp objects, it is recommended to always wear gloves.
Cut the nails periodically especially when the nails are already beyond the finger's height. If you have to use a nail polish, use one that can strengthen the nails.
When washing clothes or dishes, wear gloves. Some detergents have harmful chemicals that can soften up your nail. When cleaning the toilet bowl, always wear gloves as acids can kill the skin cells. Use a can or bottle opener when opening these things. The nail is not very strong so forcing the bottle to open using your nails can sometimes lead to spilt nails.
Use nail creams to moisturize the nail and cuticles around it.
Only apply nail polish remover twice a month because the alcohol on it can cause nail erosion.
If the nails are properly taken care of, chances of having a spilt nail will reduce and you will have those pretty looking nails that don't even require nail art.
