A loss in this one and the Giants pretty much can kiss the playoffs farewell. While they cannot mathematically be eliminated, the Giants put themselves in a deeper hole with every defeat. A victory means they still will need just to make up one game with the Dallas Cowboys to earn an NFC wild-card spot. A defeat means one Dallas win or one Giants loss in the final two weeks could lock them out of the playoffs. Its quite a comedown from their last game when they went into the Philadelphia game knowing a win would give them control of the NFC East. Now they need a win just to stay on life-support.
Redskins
Playing spoiler and putting themselves in position for next season are about the only things at stake for the Washington players. Its pretty much assured coach Jim Zorn wont be back, so they wont be playing for his job. With new GM Bruce Allen already in place, the players need to present themselves in a good light for the first part of the new regime. They also know their new coach, whether he be Mike Shanahan or someone else, will use this prime-time game as a gauge on which players he can count on in prime-time situations.
