Gift Wrapping - Is There An Art To It?

There is an art to gift wrapping and for some naturally creative people it comes easy

. For the rest of us though it can require a bit more effort but with a bit of imagination, inspiration and determination every gift you give will make an impressive impact. Gift giving is an important part of our societies and helps define and strengthen our relationships with family and friends. With any gift that we give we should always make the presentation an important part of the gesture.

We need to remember that giving a gift isn't just about the item we give (a gift can be much more than just something materialistic but for this example I am referring to something tangible) it's the action of giving and receiving, it's not just what's in the box that gives us butterflies. Remember that feeling when you received a beautifully wrapped gift? The anticipation. The mystery. A smile is guaranteed."

So how can we make sure that we do justice to our gift giving and ensure our giftee gets the full experience of receiving a gift? Well, with a little bit of planning and forethought it can be easy.

Let me help you make your gift wrapped like a piece of art.

Consider the age of your recipient. Does Grandma love lace? Incorporate it into your wrapping. Gift wrapping for a boy? Incorporate a hobby they enjoy, a picture of a car or a sport they enjoy. A gift for a parent? Get the kids to decorate some plain paper and finish it off with a nice bow. A gift for a baby? How about a small rattle tied to the bow. A wedding gift or a bridal shower gift? Try small wedding bells tied to the bow. Christmas gifts look great with a candy cane tucked under the bow. There are so many things you can incorporate, if you're on a budget discount shops have large selections of bits and pieces you can choose from.

Consider their likes and dislikes. Is your recipient environmentally conscious? Use brown paper and a sprig of rosemary. Are they an avid reader? Use newspaper print. Do they have a favourite colour? Use a colour scheme they love.

Consider the size of the gift. Very large gifts might be too big to gift wrap. You could do something like putting it behind a screen and doing a big reveal to your giftee.

If gift wrapping isn't your forte you can always ask someone else to do it for you. Perhaps a family member, a friend or try your local gift store who I'm sure will be more than willing to expertly wrap your gift for a nominal fee.

So next time you're giving a gift, don't just hand it to them in the bag your purchased it in, make that extra little effort. The anticipation and surprise you create for your giftee upon seeing your gift will have you both smiling!
