Gingivitis Some Natural Ways and Herbal Cures for Gum Disease

Gingivitis Some Natural Ways and Herbal Cures for Gum Disease

Gingivitis can be an annoying and painful dental problem. It's extremely common, and many people never succeed in completely getting rid of gingivitis. When gingivitis gets out of control, it can lead to serious periodontal disease, and even tooth loss.

Gingivitis is caused by bacteria that get out of control in the mouth. To keep gingivitis at bay, it's critical that we kill the bacteria that have caused the problem. Toothpaste and mouthwash can be effective at killing bacteria, but it's important to choose your products properly.

Symptoms of Gingivitis

Symptoms of gingivitis are many but the most common one is the bleeding gums. This usually occurs when you brush your teeth. Other symptoms include the following: constantly having bad breath or bad taste in your mouth, swollen gums, changes in biting formation,

loss of teeth, bright red or purple gums, receding and painful gums and the development of pockets between the teeth and the gums. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is advisable that you immediately see a dentist to help you with the treatment.

Some Natural Ways and Herbal Cures for Gingivitis

Neem

There are natural toothpastes in the marketplace now with neem as one of the ingredients and this is an excellent foe against gingivitis as it has natural antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. You can also find mouthwashes which contain Neem so I would highly recommend that you use these as well.

CoQ10

This is a supplement that you can easily get that is an antioxidant so prevents free radicals from building up in your body including your mouth.

Folic Acid

This is highly effective against gum disease. You can find it in pill form.

Vitamins C & E

These are both helpful in supporting your dental health

Aloe Vera

It has been proven that aloe vera is also an effective treatment for gingivitis so if you can find a toothpaste and/or mouthwash that contain both aloe vera and Neem you should get them for yourself.

Sage

Common sage, the kind you buy in spice aisle of the supermarket, has powerful antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, and it also works as an astringent to tighten the gums. Purchase an herbal mouthwash that contains sage or make your own to treat gingivitis.

To make sage mouthwash, pour a cup of boiling water over 1 tbsp. dried sage leaves and allow the mixture to steep for about 15 minutes. Strain, add 2 tsp. sea salt and refrigerate in a covered container. Rinse your mouth with the liquid twice daily just after brushing your teeth.

Tea Tree Oil

A powerful antibacterial and antiseptic substance, tea tree essential oil is one of the best herbal cures for gingivitis. A study published in 2004 in the Australian Dental Journal found that gel containing tea tree oil applied topically to the gums of patients with chronic gingivitis caused a decrease in inflammation and an increase in the health of the gums.

You can purchase natural toothpaste or mouthwash containing tea tree oil, or simply add a drop to your toothbrush before brushing with your regular toothpaste. Make sure the label specifies that the oil is 100 percent pure tea tree oil.

Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE)

Grapefruit seed extract is very powerful in fighting against the bacteria that causes gingivitis. It is also an effective antibiotic. To use this extract add a pinch to your tooth paste and brush as you normally would. This can be done twice a day.
