Glucose Meter Facts To Keep In Mind
If you are someone suffering from diabetes, chances are
, you are familiar with how important a glucose meter can be in making sure that you are able to live as normal life as possible. In simple terms, glucose meters analyze the approximate concentration of glucose in your blood and generate a reading which you can use to make adjustments in your medication, diet and lifestyle.
Glucose meters can come in different shapes and sized although oftentimes they are small enough to fit your palm. They are able to generate reports in as little as 5 seconds and would oftentimes use blood samples that are between 1 microliter and 0.1 microliter in size. A number of these glucose meters allow drawing of blood sample from various sites. There are also some that feature 400+ memory where you can store previous readings. Glucose meters can also come with coding as well as no-coding technology.
Although there are different glucose meters in the market today, they basically operate in the same manner. You have to draw blood from your finger, or any site allowed by the glucose meter, with the help of a lancet and a lance device. This blood is then absorbed by the test strip which is then loaded on to the meter device. After a few seconds, a reading is flashed across the devices LCD indicating the amount of glucose there is in your blood.
A typical glucose monitoring system comes with a meter device, several lancets, a lance device where you can load the lancet in order to make the pricking less painful, and a number of test strips such as the
Freestyle Lite test strips. Most of these strips have specific shapes that make it easy for the user to load the sample into the monitoring device.
Make sure that, after you have already tested your blood, throw away any lancets as well as
Freestyle Lite strips properly. Do not attempt to re-use as this is not only unhygienic but would also give out false results.
If you are the type of person who needs to regularly test their blood sugar level, it would be a good idea to keep a number of Freestyle Lite strips in hand.
