God, Why Am I Not Succeeding?
Whenever we set out to do something, we want to succeed
. After all, why try if we just think we are going to fail. So, when we do try and end up failing, we can often feel like we wasted our time and effort.
For Christians, this is usually true, too. However, we tend to have an added element to situation. We pray for the God to guide us in our decisions. We often expect that if we follow His lead, He will lead us to success. So, when a Christian fails after seeking the Lords guidance in prayer it can affect his faith.
- What did I do wrong?
- Did I not have enough faith?
- Did I misunderstand God?
- Why would God lead me to do something only fail?
These are all questions a Christian may ask after they seek God, follow where they believe God is leading them, and still seem to fail.
So whats going on?
Why would God lead us down a path if it leads to failure?
Was He leading us there in the first place?
Gods lead does not guarantee success.
The Lord always wants us to have faith and believe. This opens up the way for the miracle of His perfect will to be released into the situation. However, at the same time, this is not a guarantee of the miracle or the solution happening. It is just that by us walking forward in faith (believing, speaking and acting in faith), it gives others the maximum opportunity to cooperate with God on the project by fully releasing the convicting power of the Holy Spirit into the situation. And yet God will never force them to do the right thing. He is just maximizing the opportunity for them to do the right thing by having you stand, speak and act in faith.
So, it may not be that the leading was wrong. It may be that God opened the door of possibility for someone and they did not properly walk through it.
Gods Will is not always your will.
Its important to remember that just because God leads us in a certain direction, it does not mean that His intended destination is the same as yours. It doesnt matter if youre a new Christian, been a Christian for years, or even have a Masters of Divinity. So, we must not place our faith in a specific destination or result. Instead, our faith is in a God of Love who is working everything out for our good as we trust and obey Him. I think our attitude of steadfast faith is more important to Him than the circumstances we are walking through.
Dont let the fact that your expectations werent met destroy your faith.
Seek the Lord and His guidance in all that you and have faith that God is working. You may not understand at the time why things turn out the way they do, but trust that the Lord working and it is good. Define success as following where the Lord is leading you, not on arriving where you want to arrive.
